Four Pitchers Team Up as Inland Valley Pirates Shuts Out Orange County Orioles 11-0

The Inland Valley Pirates (3-4-1) snapped a two game losing streak by shutting out the Orange County Orioles 11-0 on Tuesday night.

Pirates starter Chris Burnett was outstanding in his first start of the season throwing five scoreless innings. The right hander allowed just three hits and struck out two.

He got plenty of run support as Inland Valley scored a season high 11 runs. Ray Lemos hit his first home run of the year. His solo shot in the fifth inning off Orioles reliever Morgan Johnson gave the Pirates a 4-0 lead.

The Pirates broke it open in the sixth inning when they scored seven runs all with two out. Alberto Vargas delivered a two run single to cap off the scoring.

Inland Valley returns to action on Friday when they hit the road to play the South Bay Sparrows.

 

Bucs win 5-1 to sweep doubleheader vs Dovetail Baseball

Inland Valley Bucs defeated Dovetail Baseball 5-1 in game 2 of the doubleheader. Inland Valley Bucs scored on an error in the first inning.

Inland Valley Bucs captured the lead in the first inning. Jacob Castillo’s sac fly scored one run for Inland Valley Bucs.

Mason Corneliussen earned the win for Inland Valley Bucs. He pitched three innings, surrendering zero runs, two hits, striking out four, and walking one. Art Corona threw two innings, as three relievers helped Inland Valley Bucs finish off the victory. Brandon Nance took the loss for Dovetail Baseball. He threw two innings, giving up three runs, and zero hits.

Logan Gopperton went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Inland Valley Bucs in hits.

 

Three Pitchers Team Up as Inland Valley Bucs Shuts Out Dovetail Baseball in Game 1

The Inland Valley Bucs defeated Dovetail Baseball 8-0 on Monday in Game 1 of a doubleheader as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

An early lead helped propel Inland Valley Bucs to victory. Inland Valley Bucs scored on a groundout by Seamus Fallon in the first inning, a error in the second inning, a single by Rudy Casarez in the second inning, and a single by Malcom Smith in the second inning.

Inland Valley Bucs captured the lead in the first inning, as Fallon grounded out, scoring one run.

Inland Valley Bucs scored three runs in the third inning. They scored on a double by Patrick Vizcaino, a single by Johnny Juarez, and a single by Casarez.

Charlie Verrone earned the win for Inland Valley Bucs. He pitched three innings, allowing zero runs, one hit, and striking out three. Isaac Lopez threw the next three innings, as two relievers helped Inland Valley Bucs finish off the victory. Skyler Sylvester took the loss for Dovetail Baseball. He threw two and a third innings, allowing seven runs, eight hits, and striking out one.

Inland Valley Bucs collected 11 hits. Juarez, Casarez, Jacob Doty, and Smith each collected multiple hits for Inland Valley Bucs. Juarez went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Inland Valley Bucs in hits.

 

Pirates lose to SB Cardinals 7-0

The Inland Valley Pirates (2-3-1) were shutout at home 7-0 by the Solana Beach Cardinals on Friday night.
Inland Valley scratched out just three hits and only one runner reached as far as third base.
Peter Eitapence got the start for the Pirates and struggled in his three innings of work. The right hander allowed four runs on four hits and walked three.
The Pirates and Cardinals play again on Saturday at Solana Beach. First pitch is at 11am.

Bucs win second in arrow against SB Cardinals 4-0

The Inland Valley Bucs won their second in a row after blanking the Solana Beach Cardinals 4-0 on Thursday night. Four Buc pitchers combined on the five hit shutout as the Cards failed to get a runner as far as third base.

Hayden Pearce was outstanding in relief for Inland Valley. He threw four scoreless innings, allowed just three hits, and struck out seven.

The Bucs jumped all over Cardinals starting pitcher George Chapman scoring four runs in the first four innings. Inland Valley led 1-0 when they tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Patrick Vizcaino and Aaron McCann each delivered RBI singles.

Inland Valley tallied once more in the fourth when Rudy Casarez delivered a sacrifice fly scoring Joey Riherd.

Hayden Pearce picked up his first win of the season while Solana Beach starting pitcher George Chapman took the loss.

The Inland Valley Bucs earned their first victory of the season knocking off the defending league champion San Diego Force 4-3.

Jordan Hernandez got things going offensively for the Bucs. He led off the bottom of the first with a double and then scored on an RBI single by clean up hitter Brandon Alamo.

The 1-0 lead lasted until the top of the sixth when the Force scored three runs on just one hit. Bucs Reliever Sean Patton walked the first two hitters of the inning. Then Inland Valley third baseman Garrett Calvert committed a costly throwing error after fielding a bunt off the bat of Carl Schwettman which allowed Derek Nakasato to score. Two batters later Avery Tuck delivered a two-run double.

Inland Valley’s offense came to life in the bottom of the eighth. Rudy Casarez led off with a single and Jordan Hernandez followed with his second double of the game. Two outs later Jacob Doty came through with an RBI single. The Bucs tied it up at 3 following a throwing error by San Diego second baseman Brady Groesbeck.

Mason Corneliussen came out of the Bucs bullpen to pitch a scoreless ninth. That set the stage for Jordan Hernandez. He came to the plate with two out and Rudy Casarez at first. Hernandez lined a pitch off San Diego reliever Garrett Yocum that landed just out of the reach of center fielder Carl Schwettman allowing Casarez to score all the way from first.

The Bucs return to non-league action on Thursday as they face the Solano Beach Cardinals.

Bucs Early-Season Woes Continue in Double Header

The Inland Valley Bucs early season woes continued as they dropped a doubleheader to the San Diego Waves on Tuesday. The Bucs lost game one 5-2 and then dropped the nightcap 3-0.  In the opener, San Diego jumped out to a 1-0 lead after two innings and then added three more in the third. The big blow in the inning was a two-out two-run single delivered by leadoff hitter Eli Wisdom off Bucs reliever Isaac Lopez. Inland Valley struggled offensively producing just six hits and hitting into four double plays.

The Bucs offensive slump carried over into game two. Inland Valley managed just one hit and were shutout for the first time this season. San Diego’s Jack Gonzalez got the win in relief while Bucs starter Logan Lannon took the loss.

Inland Valley is back in action on Wednesday. They open up league play with a home game against the defending Southern California Collegiate Baseball Champion San Diego Force.

Bucs Drop Opener To Jays 7 -3

The Inland Valley Bucs lost their season opener 7-3 to the California Jays on Thursday night. The Jays jumped on Inland Valley starter Hayden Pearce for three runs in the first inning and added another run in the third off reliever Jacob Castillo. Inland Valley cut the deficit to 4-3 in the seventh following the Jays fourth and fifth errors of the contest. But California put the game away scoring three runs in the eighth despite not getting a hit in the inning.

The Bucs offense managed nine hits including two from Brandon Alamo. The Jays Steven Mendoza got the win in relief and Pearce suffered the loss.

Inland Valley has an off day on Friday and resumes action with a doubleheader on Saturday

Pirates Fall in Championship

The OC Surf hoisted up the inaugural Sunset Baseball League championship after defeating the Inland Valley Pirates 10-5 at Blair Field Saturday night.

The Surf actually fell behind in the top of the first after Jahshua Jones tripled off the base of the left field fence and came in to score later in the inning to make it a 1-0 ballgame.

The Surf responded immediately with three runs in the bottom of the first.

The Pirates answered with one run in the top of the second to cut the deficit to 3-2. Aaron Torres delivered the RBI in the frame, but that was as close as Inland Valley got.

In the bottom of the second, the Surf scored six after sending 10 to the plate. ]

The Pirates attempted to make a comeback in the fourth scoring three runs to cut the margin to 9-5. Jones had an RBI base hit and scored in the inning. Torres and Alec Petrone also scored.

The final run of the game came in the bottom of the seventh as Dimascio crossed home plate to stretch the lead to 10-5.

Louis Corral was sensational in relief working 5.1 innings and striking out 10, while only allowing one hit. Corral earned the championship game MVP.

Jake Geck was solid in relief for the Pirates tossing 4.1 innings and only allowing one hit and one run.

Pirates Sweep Cardinals Advance to Championship

A topsy-turvy affair broke out in the second game of the best of three SBL semifinal series on Wednesday night at Cal Poly Pomona as the Pirates held on to win 10-9 and sweep the #1 seeded Solana Beach Cardinals.

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, Inland Valley answered with a run in the bottom of the frame on a Brennan McKenzie RBI single to make it a 2-1 ballgame.

The Cardinals tacked on two more in the second thanks to a couple errors to extend the margin to 4-1.

The Pirates responded with two in the third to cut it back to one run, this time at 4-3. Jonathan de Marte ripped in his first RBI of the day and McKenzie cranked home his second RBI.

Inland Valley plated four in the fifth inning as they took the lead for the first time 7-4. De Marte blasted a three-run bomb over the left field fence for the second straight day. Hayden Wright added an RBI single as well.

Solana Beach answered immediately with three in the top of the sixth to tie it up at 7-7.

The Pirates went right back to work regaining the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a Zack Cooper RBI single to make it 8-7.

The Cardinals fought back once more to tie it at 8 apiece in the top of the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Pirates again took a lead as Alec Petrone came through with a big two-run base hit.

The Pirates will play the Surf in the SBL Championship Game on Saturday night at 6 p.m. at Blair Field.
