Acosta Delivers a Walk-Off Winner

Bucs gm 8Nathaniel Acosta only had one at-bat, but it was all he needed to become the walk-off hero for the Inland Valley Buccaneers (3-8, 2-4) in a 3-2 victory against the Long Beach Legends (11-4-1).

The Bucs started the scoring off in the second inning as Jack Spohn doubled and scored on a Michael Smith RBI single. Smith finished 4-for-4 on the day.

Inland Valley plated another run in the seventh when Gerardo Ramirez knocked in Michael Ortega. Ramirez also earned the win, tossing one shutout inning in the ninth. Continue reading “Acosta Delivers a Walk-Off Winner”

Bucs Win First Game

bucs gm 6The Buccaneers (1-5, 1-1) won their first game of the season 3-2 against the High Desert Heat on a game-winning RBI by Michael Smith Wednesday night at Cal Poly Pomona.

Nathaniel Acosta tossed five shutout innings and struck out six.

Bucs Lose Heartbreaker to Heat

Bucs Gm 5The Buccaneers (0-5, 0-1) lost 5-4 to the High Desert Heat (2-1, 1-0) Tuesday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Bucs started things off right in the second when Girardo Ramirez belted an RBI single into right field scoring Jack Spohn.

The Heat responded with five unearned runs in the top of the third to grab a 5-1 lead.

Pirates and Bucs Season Preview

SCCBL all-stars AJ David, Kyle Jackson, Christian Kelley and Taylor Valentine are all back to help the club improve upon last season’s 12-11-1 mark. valentine pitch copy

Taylor Valentine posted gaudy numbers, while dominating the competition in 2013. The Cal State San Bernardino senior-to-be earned Pitcher of the Year honors while finishing 5-0 with a 0.66 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 40.2 innings.
