Bucs Swept by Power

bucs gm 20The Buccaneers (7-17-1, 3-11) were swept by the Palm Springs Power (27-5, 7-2) 17-4 on Wednesday night at Palm Springs Stadium.

The Power struck with one run in the first and the score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth.

The Power surged for 13 runs in the fourth to grab a 14-0 lead and put the game out of reach.

Pirates Conquer Legends

pirates gm 24The Pirates (21-5, 10-4) conquered the Long Beach Legends 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Long Beach City College.

The story of the game was the two D-1 pitchers for the Pirates, Andrew Alvarez (5-0) and Jordan Scheftz (SV 2), shutout the Legends. Alvarez tossed the first five innings, while Scheftz closed out the final four. Continue reading “Pirates Conquer Legends”

Bucs Eliminated from Playoff Contention

bucs gm 19The Buccaneers (7-16-1, 3-10) fell 4-1 to the Palm Springs Power (26-5, 6-2) Tuesday night at Palm Springs Stadium.

The Power jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Inland Valley responded with one run in the sixth on an RBI single by Johnny Juarez.

Palm Springs plated two more runs in the seventh.

Pirates Blank Dodgers

pirates gm 23The Pirates (20-5, 10-4) defeated the East LA Dodgers 4-0 Tuesday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.

It was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but that’s when the Pirate bats awakened.

Michael Koval Earns Pitcher of the Week Honors

michael kovalMichael Koval has been named SCCBL Pitcher of the Week by the media on Monday.

Koval dominated league rival High Desert Heat hurling 6.1 innings, while striking out 11 and only allowing one earned run.

In addition to those impressive numbers, Koval for season has put up even more impressive stats.

In 28.2 innings, he has struck out 41 batters, which is already the most strikeouts in a single season for any Pirate pitcher. Koval is also (2-0) and has a 1.26 ERA to go along with a 0.91 WHIP.

Bucs Offense Sparks Fireworks on 4th of July Weekend

BUCS GM 18The Buccaneers (7-15-1, 3-9) defeated AOS Baseball 12-5 Sunday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.

Inland Valley trailed 5-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but refused to give in.

Anthony Seminaris started the rally off with a single and scored on a two-run single by Kevin Riley. Richie Chavez, who singled, scored on the play as well. Riley scored on an RBI ground out by Jake Teagle. Johnny Juarez singled and scored on a hit by Bryce Brooks. Alvarez Named SCCBL Pitcher of Month

alvarez pitcher of week Andrew Alvarez was named the SCCBL Pitcher of the Month by the media late Wednesday night.

In 29.1 innings, Alvarez struck out 27 hitters, notched a 1.53 ERA and recorded a 0.99 WHIP. He also leads the SCCBL with a 4-0 record. Among other things, Alvarez has the distinction of earning the win in both of his starts against the Palm Springs Power, who have only lost four total games all season.

In addition to the outstanding pitching stats, Alvarez has also been on a tear at the dish hitting .431, while already belting the most hits (28) in Inland Valley history in just the first month of the season.

 

9-Run 1st Inning Helps Pirates Sweep Heat

pirates gm 22The Pirates (19-5, 10-4) swept the doubleheader with a 10-4 win in Game 2 against the High Desert Heat (6-8, 3-7) Wednesday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.

Pirates Cool Off Heat in Game 1

pirates gm 21The Pirates (18-5, 9-4) cooled off the High Desert Heat (6-7, 3-6) in a 4-2 victory Wednesday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.

Michael Koval (2-0) was dominant baffling Heat hitters with 11 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. He had a string of 12 consecutive batters retired from the second inning to the sixth.
