Bucs Sweep AOS

The Inland Valley Buccaneers (9-12-1) completed a sweep of team AOS in game 2 of Friday’s doubleheader by a count of 7-2.

The victory came on the heels of a 20-3 victory in game 1 of the doubleheader.

Much like game 1, the action started early. However, this time it was AOS jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.

The Bucs would answer, however, as for the second time in as many games, the Bucs put up four runs in the second inning to go up by a score of 4-1.

AOS came back with a run of their own in the top of the fourth inning. Yet, much like the first game the Bucs answered right back in the bottom half of the inning as Jacob Taylor doubled to score Shamon Moss and gave the Bucs a 5-2 lead.

One batter later, Taylor came around to score on a fielding error as the Bucs pushed their lead to 6-2.

The Buccaneers tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Shamon Moss to make it 7-2.

From there, the Bucs pitching staff held the AOS bats silent and the Bucs hung on for the 7-2 victory.

David Kretschmar was credited with the victory in relief, as he retired all six batters he faced and struck out four in his two innings of work.

Shamon Moss had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-4 and finishing just a home run shy of the cycle. He also scored a run and drove one in.

The Buccaneers will look to continue their winning on Monday when they take on the Long Beach Legends (Red) at Scolinos Field. First pitch is at 4:30 pm.

Pirates Out Duel Bucs

The Pirates (3-0-1, 1-0) held off the Bucs (1-5, 0-1) 2-1 on Monday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona in a pitcher’s duel.

Brett Early was sensational for the Pirates logging six innings, while striking out nine and allowing no earned runs. The senior-to-be at the University of La Verne has now amassed 75 career strikeouts for the Pirates in his career, an Inland Valley record.

Andrew Eppenbach worked the final three innings in relief retiring nine of the 10 hitters he faced and earning his first save of the season.

The Bucs’ pitching staff was great as well.

David Kretschmar hurled the first four innings and allowed no runs en route to retiring 11 of  the 13 batters he faced on the day.

All three runs were scored in the fifth inning as the Bucs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the inning only to see it vanquish in the bottom half of the frame.

Tristan Chamberlain scored on a Kevin Riley RBI, but the Pirates answered when Jonny Reynoso knocked in Michael Deceglie and Jake Thumm.

Nighthawks Fly Past Bucs

The Bucs’ early season struggles continued with another loss, this time coming to the Colton Nighthawks 4-3 at Cal Poly Pomona on Friday afternoon.

The Bucs were poised to get off the schnide initially as they jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first.

Connor Steer doubled to left field and wound up scoring later.

Colton responded with three runs in the fourth to grab the 3-1 lead.

Inland Valley answered with a two-run seventh to knot the game up at 3. JP Hopkins had the big two-run double scoring Joe Morreale and Blake Vandegrift.

Just when it looked like the Bucs might make the comeback, they gave up one run in the eighth on a wild pitch.

David Kretschmar tossed two solid scoreless innings.

Jonathon Hopkins added another two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.

Bucs Can’t Put Out the Fire

The bad luck continued for the Inland Valley Bucs (0-3) losing the second game of the doubleheader to the Lake Havasu Fire 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Fire plated two in the third, but Inland Valley responded with its lone run in the bottom half of the frame when JP Hopkins scored on a Christian Hendrix RBI single.

Lake Havasu tacked on one more in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

David Kretschmar tossed a nice first inning, striking out two while only allowing one base runner.

The Bucs take the field again Friday against the Colton Nighthawks at Cal Poly Pomona at 1 p.m.
