Pirates Notch Legendary Win

The Inland Valley Pirates (9-9-1) defeated the Long Beach Legends at Scolinos Field on Tuesday by a score of 5-2.

Six Pirates pitchers combined to give up just two runs on four hits as the offense capitalized on four Legend errors.

Long Beach jumped on the board early with a run in the first inning on an RBI single.

The Pirates answered back in the second inning, when Nick Hernandez scored on a fielding error, tying the game at 1.

In the bottom of the third, with two on and two out, Johnny Reynoso singled to drive in a run and give the Pirates a 2-1 lead.

The Legends managed to tie the game at 2 with a run in the top half of the seventh. However, it would be short-lived as in the bottom of the seventh, late game insert, Chaneng Varela, singled to drive in the go-ahead run and give the Pirates a 3-2 lead.

Two batters later, the Pirates plated an insurance run on a sacrifice fly by outfielder, Sergio Robles.

Two batters later the Pirates scored their third run of the inning, when a double steal attempt forced an errant throw from the catcher, allowing the runner at third to score.

The Pirates held the Legends scoreless from there and walked away with the 5-2 victory.

The Pirates used six different pitchers to hold the Legends to just two runs and four hits.

Nicholas Sergi is credited with the win in relief, giving up just one unearned run and striking out one batter in his lone inning.

Justin Gomez continued his hot hitting, as he went 2-for-3 with a run scored and reached base in all three of his plate appearances.

The Pirates will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday as they play a doubleheader against Team San Diego at Scolinos Field. The first takes place at 1 p.m.

Bucs Tie Dodgers

The Inland Valley Buccaneers (7-11-1) tied the East LA Dodgers Monday night at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Bucs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before falling behind 5-2.

They used a three-run ninth to tie the game and left the bases loaded.

Matt Majher knocked in one run in each of his first two plate appearances. In the second, he scored Johnny Juarez and in the fourth he brought home Joseph Morreale.

The Dodgers scored five unanswered runs getting three in the sixth and one in the seventh and eighth.

Two runs were scored on an error, and two more came home on wild pitches, so the Bucs shot themselves in the foot, and found themselves behind by a 5-2 score heading to the final frame.

The team awakened in the bottom of the ninth hitting through the entire lineup and scoring three runs to knot it up at 5-5.

Blake Vandegrift ripped an RBI double scoring Majher.

Anthony Seminaris scored on a wild pitch.

Vandegrift scored the tying run a Brendan Campbell RBI single.

The Bucs are back at it again on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Cal Poly Pomona against the San Diego Force.

Pirates Fall Short of Comeback

The Inland Valley Pirates (8-9-1, 3-8) fell short of their comeback attempt against the San Diego Force (23-4, 10-2) Sunday afternoon at Madison High.

After trailing by six runs on three separate occasions, the Pirates cut the deficit to three in the eighth and left bases loaded in the ninth.

The Force led 6-0 at the end of the second.

The Pirates got one back in the third when Drew Seelman knocked home Jeff Nellis.

The margin was once again extended to six as the Force tacked on one in the third to make it a 7-1 score.

The Pirates plated one in the fifth on a Jason Padlo RBI single, but once again the Force made it a six-run game when they answered in the sixth to grab an 8-2 lead.

In the eighth, the Pirates scored three to cut the deficit in half at 8-5. The first three hitters in the inning all reached base and scored including Jonny Reynoso, Justin Gomez and Jacob Bernardy.

The Pirates threatened in the ninth with bases loaded one out, but Justin Hertzman, the Force closer slammed the door shut by striking out both Pirates he faced.

Pirates Fall in 11

Sunday afternoon at Madison High, the Pirates (8-8-1, 3-7) and Force (22-4, 9-2) finished a previously suspended game from earlier in the season.

The teams started in the 10th inning knotted up at 8.

It ended quickly as the Force scored twice in the 11th to win the game.

It was a game the Pirates should have been able to close out previously as they had the lead 8-6 in the eighth, but the Force scored twice to tie it up on two errors, two walks and a hit batter meaning that a single hit wasn’t recorded in the eighth inning, yet the Force still tied it up.

The Force took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but the Pirates answered in the bottom of the inning with one of their own on a RBI single by Justin Gomez.

Gomez came through again with another RBI in the third scoring Kyle Jackson both times to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead.

The Force fought back scoring five unanswered runs to grab a 6-2 lead in the sixth, but the pirates responded with a six-run sixth inning.

Tyler Urbach and Jackson each knocked in one and Jason Padlo had a two-run single making it an 8-6 Pirate lead, only to be relinquished in the eighth.

Five-Run Seventh Dooms Bucs

The Inland Valley Buccaneers (7-11, 5-7) were just seven outs away from evening up their record at 6-6. It appeared like everything was going right as they led 7-3 entering the seventh inning, but a nightmarish five-run seventh sprung Team San Diego (7-14, 3-10) to an 8-7 victory on Friday night at Cal Poly Pomona.

It was a game of major momentum swings.

The Bucs scored the first two in the first inning on a two-run single by Hershel Gardner.

San Diego responded with one run in the second, fourth and fifth to grab a 3-2 lead.

Inland Valley fought right back with four in the fifth and another in the sixth to regain the lead at 7-3.

Anthony Seminaris had a big two-run double, while Brendan Campbell and JP Hopkins added two RBI.

In the seventh, San Diego scored five runs on what was a tough inning to say the least that included three errors, two hit batters, a wild pitch and a walk.

The Bucs are off for the weekend and will take on the East LA Dodgers in a non-league game on Monday at 5 p.m. at Cal Poly Pomona.
