It was a conference battle for the Inland Valley Pirates and the Inland Valley Buccaneers Friday Night. Back and forth scoring lead the Pirates to a 9-8 win over their Inland Valley brothers.
A high energy and scoring momentum game for both teams today. The Bucs got on the board first with a lead off double from Christian Valdez (24), a RBI single from Christos Stefanos to bring home Valdez and a double from Brad Lewis (20) to bring in Stefanos. However, the Pirates responded by firing the canons in the third. A lead off single from Travis Aversa (2) created the momentum that the Pirates needed to catch up to the 3-0 lead the Bucs had. The next three batters would go on to follow Aversa’s lead and not only bring in Aversa but load the bases for Ryan Anderson’s grand slam. The Pirates would go on to have another big inning in the fourth scoring 4 more runs. The Bucs kept up with the Pirates by scoring 1 run in the third and fourth innings and 4 runs in the fifth, cutting the score deficit to just one run.
Today’s standout performance comes from Jake Anderson from the Pirates who had a 3 for 4 outing with 5 RBIs and a grand slam. Another spotlight of today’s matchup was bullpen. Both teams were able to silence each other and have quick innings from the sixth on. For the Bucs, Isaac Lopez (13) and Gerardo Ramirez (6) were able to shut down the Pirates and keep them from increasing their lead. For the Pirates, Jake Lachemann (9) and Trip Aversa (18) silenced the Bucs with 3 quick innings and 2 defensive errors.
It was quite the match up for both teams. The Pirates are now 7-5 in SCCBL play and the Bucs are now 6-8. The series between these two teams is now 1-1. The Bucs will have a chance at redemption tomorrow, June 30 at Citrus College at 3:30 pm.
