Pirates Were Legen-wait for it-dary in Tonight’s Win Over Long Beach

The Inland Valley Pirates hand the Long Beach Legends their first conference loss of the season and split the series in a high energy, 3-1 win.

The Pirates got the momentum going in the third inning with a single from catcher, Alberto Vargas (34), a walk for Michael Moy (5), single for Tyler Van Marte (34), and a RBI, fielder’s choice play for Jaden Burns to bring in Vargas and give the Pirates the lead. The Pirates would go on to score one run in the fifth and one run in the eighth resulting in their 3-1 win over the Legends.
Today’s standout performance comes from the two-player pitching staff of today’s game. Starting pitcher Avery Rivera (3) pitched 6 scoreless innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Reliever, Matt  Sanchez (18) would continue to feed of off Rivera’s momentum and pitch 3 four-batter innings, allowing only one hit, which resulted in Long Beach’s one and only run of the night.
The Inland Valley Pirates are now 5-7 in Sunset League play and 5-9 overall. The Pirates hope to improve their league standings tomorrow, June 29th against the Signal Hill Oilers at Long Beach City College at 4:30 pm.
