The Inland Valley Pirates split a doubleheader against the South Bay Sparrows on Saturday. The Pirates took the opening game 15-13 and the Sparrows won game two 5-4.
In the opener thirteen different Pirate players collected hits. Allen Dong led way offensively going 3-4 with 3 RBI.
Inland Valley trailed by a run going into the bottom of the eighth. However, the Pirates rallied to regain the lead scoring four times. Justin Katz had a key hit delivering an RBI single.
Game two was a much different story. South Bay starting pitcher Daniel Rubio silenced the Pirates bats holding Inland Valley to a run on one hit through the first five innings.
The Pirates trailed 5-1 heading into the sixth. That’s when inland Valley broke through against the South Bay bullpen scoring three times to pull within a run. But, Sparrows reliever Eli Edwards pitched a perfect ninth to slam the door on Inland Valley’s three game winning streak.
