Pirates Play to 8-8 Tie

The Inland Valley Pirates battled the Gamers to an 8-8 tie on Tuesday evening at Scolinos Field.

The Pirates came back from a 5-0 deficit, taking advantage of several Gamer miscues.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the Gamers put three runs on the board against Pirates starter Charlie Verrone.

The next inning the Gamers put up two more runs the take a 5-0 lead. The stymied Pirate offense finally broke out in the bottom of the sixth.

With runners on first and third and one out, an errant pickoff throw allowed Jacob Blackiston to score from third, putting the Pirates on the scoreboard. Three batters later, with the bases loaded, Landon Marshall socked a two-run double over the left fielders head to cut the deficit to 5-3. Two batters later, Jake Bryant came in to score on a wild pitch for the fourth run of the inning.

The score remained 5-4 until the top of the eighth inning, when the Gamers put up a three spot to push their lead to 8-4.

However, the never say die, Pirates answered right back in their half of the eighth. Anthrowing error by the Gamers’ shortstop plated Jacob Blackiston for the first run of the inning. Later, Jahshua Jones came in to score the second run of the inning on a throwing error by the Gamers third baseman. The next batter, Koby Glass, drove in a run with an RBI groundout, bringing the Pirates within a run of the gamers. Then with two outs and runners on first and third, pinch runner, Aaron Torres scampered home on a wild pitch to tie the game at eight.

After holding the Gamers scoreless in the ninth, the Pirates managed to load the bases with one out in their half of the inning. Unfortunately for the Pirates, they were unable to bring that winning run home from third and the game concluded in a draw.

Landon Marshall was the standout offensively, driving in three of the Pirates’ eight runs. Charlie Verrone turned in a quality outing, giving up just three runs over four innings. Aaron Bernal and Sean Patton both pitched scoreless relief.

The Pirates will hoist anchor on Thursday, as they draw swords with the South Bay Sliders at El Camino College. Game time is 5:00 PM.
