The Pirates (24-6, 11-4) defeated Team San Diego (23-18, 7-8) 7-2 in Game 1 of the double dip Friday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.
The Pirates jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Andrew Alvarez doubled and scored on a Nolan Henley RBI base hit up the middle. Christian Kelley plated the second run on an infield single by Greg Espinosa.
In the sixth, the Pirates took complete control scoring another four runs to take a 6-0 lead.
Kyle Jackson ripped an RBI double scoring Jason Padlo. Michael Johnson scored on the play as well after a throwing error by the left fielder. Jackson wound up scoring on an error as well. The fourth Pirate to cross home plate in the inning was Matthew Reynoso who scored on a wild pitch.
San Diego answered with two runs in the seventh, but Inland Valley came back with one final insurance run in the bottom half of the inning as Alec Morabito scored.
Jordan Scheftz started the game and only allowed two hits in three innings of work.
Jack Johnson (2-2) earned the win hurling three innings while allowing no runs.
Aaron Reynoso and AJ David worked one scoreless inning each.
