The Buccaneers (5-15, 2-9) suffered a 12-3 defeat at the hands of Top Speed (22-3) Sunday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.
Top Speed scored two in the first, but Inland Valley answered immediately with two in the bottom half of the inning.
Johnny Juarez ripped an RBI single scoring Mbusi Hlatshwayo. Anthony Rabito knocked in Kevin Riley to knot it up at 2-2.
It was all Top Speed from then on. They scored one in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to grab a 6-2 lead.
The Bucs responded with one in the seventh on a Brendan Campbell double. Tanner Thibodeau scored to close the gap to 6-3, but that was as close as Inland Valley would get.
Top Speed plated one in the eighth and five in the ninth to break it open.
Micah Beyer was strong in 2.1 innings of relief, allowing no runs while striking out five.
