The Pirates (12-3-1, 4-2) defeated the Bucs (3-12, 2-8) 10-3 Saturday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona to complete the doubleheader sweep.
The Pirates put the game away early, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning.
Jason Padlo ripped an RBI double, one of his three hits on the day. Michael Johnson cracked a two-run double, but he wasn’t finished yet.
In the third, Johnson added another RBI to extend the lead to 6-0.
Once again, the Buccaneers continued to fight back. They scored three in the fifth to cut the deficit in half.
Diego Cortes, Luke Asperger and Kevin Riley had one RBI each, while Jack Spohn, Richie Chavez and Brendan Campbell all scored once.
The momentum was rapidly halted on a mammoth home run blast down the left field line by Nolan Henley in the sixth inning making it a 7-3 ballgame.
The Pirates went right back to work in the seventh as both Virgen brothers tallied one RBI giving the Pirates a 9-3 lead.
The Pirates scored one more insurance run in the ninth on an RBI by Jacob Bernardy.
Brett Early started the game and pitched a solid 4.2 innings striking out eight. Kevin Glomb (1-1) earned his first win of the season striking out two in 2.1 innings. AJ David and Andrew Alvarez each pitched one scoreless inning in relief.
Eric Trask tossed two scoreless innings and struck out two.
