The magic number for the Pirates (10-3, 2-2) against the East L.A. Dodgers was six in game one of the double dip on Tuesday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.
Inland Valley scored six runs in the sixth inning en route to a 9-2 victory.
The Dodgers actually took a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, but that’s when the offensive fireworks exploded for the men in red.
Jonny Reynoso started it off with a single, stolen base and scored. Jason Padlo followed in suit with a single, stolen base and scored. Alec Morabito singled and scored. Christian Kelley belted an RBI and scored. Kyle Jackson ripped an RBI and scored. Nathan Virgen walked and scored. Anthony Virgen finished off the inning in style with a bases clearing triple to give the Pirates a 6-2 lead.
The Pirates weren’t finished yet. In the seventh, they plated three more runs. Reynoso, Padlo and Andrew Alvarez scored. Kelley added his second RBI and ninth of the season. Jackson knocked in two more for a total of three in the game.
Brett Early pitched five strong innings striking out four, while only allowing one run.
Aaron Reynoso (1-0) earned the victory tossing three innings and allowing one run.
