The Pirates (8-3, 1-2) dropped the first game of the doubleheader 5-1 to the High Desert Heat (3-2, 2-1) on Saturday morning at Victor Valley College.
The Heat were on fire in the early going as they scored all five runs in between the third and fifth innings to sprint out to a 5-0 lead.
The Pirates answered with their lone run of the game in the top of the sixth when Alec Morabito knocked in Andrew Alvarez.
