After dropping Game 1 of the doubleheader, the Inland Valley Pirates (9-3, 2-2) cooled off the High Desert Heat (3-3, 2-2) in Game 2 en route to a 6-4 victory.
Christian Kelley scored Fernando Escobar on a sacrifice fly and Jonny Reynoso ripped an RBI single scoring Nolan Henley to put the Pirates in front 2-0.
The Heat responded with one run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Inland Valley went right back to work in the bottom of the fourth and extended the lead back to two runs when Kelley notched his second RBI of the day.
High Desert continued to fight back, knotting the score up at 3 apiece in the fifth inning.
The Pirates rose to the occasion plating two runs in the top of the seventh to regain the lead for good. Matthew Reynoso crushed a two-run double scoring Kelley and Nathan Virgen.
The Pirates tallied one last insurance run in the eighth. Henley cracked an RBI triple scoring Escobar.
Cody Erautt (2-0) earned the win tossing four innings, while striking out four.
The Pirates face the East LA Dodgers next on Tuesday in a doubleheader at Cal Poly Pomona set to start at 2 p.m.
