The Inland Valley Pirate’s escaped another close game Sunday night, taking home the win over the Solana Beach Redbirds 5-4.

Solana Beach got off to an early start, scoring one run in the second and another three runs in the fourth. The Pirates would then bring in their second pitcher of the night, Jake Gomez, who prevented the road team from scoring any additional runs by pitching five shutout innings.

Heading into the seventh and down 4-2, the Pirates would begin their comeback. After an RBI in the seventh from third baseman Cameron Trudel made the score 4-3, first baseman Cody Marshall recorded his second RBI of the night, this one allowing the Pirates to take the lead and secure the win.

Inland Valley now sits at 4-6 in the Sunset Baseball League and 4-8 overall.

The Pirate’s get the day off tomorrow, but will take the field next this Tuesday at Amerige Park when they play the Long Beach Legends at 7:00pm.

The Pirates were able to hold off the San Diego Force and edge out a 7-6 victory in Thursday night’s game extra inning thriller.

It looked like Inland Valley had this one in the bag right out of the gate. Both shortstop Ryan Williams and catcher Kyle Harper recorded an RBI in the first inning to put the Pirates on the board first. The team’s starting first baseman, Jake Anderson, hit a home run in the second to add to the lead and put the Pirate’s up 3-0. Inland Valley would go on to score an additional run in the fourth, fifth an sixth inning, and had the Force right where they wanted them heading into the seventh, with a score of 6-3.

Then came the force behind San Diego.

The road team rallied from behind to score three runs in the seventh inning and give them a chance to stay alive.

Neither team could get things going by the end of regulation and the score remained tied 6-6 until the the 13th inning. With the bases loaded and just one out, designated hitter Bryce Willits took the final at bat for the Pirates, and hit a sacrifice fly to allow first baseman Jake Lacheman to make a play at home plate. In a close call, Lacheman was able to slide in safely at home to secure the run and the win for the Pirates.

This victory moves Inland Valley to the top of the standings of the SCCBL, as they sit at 5-3 in League play. They drop the Force down to second with a conference record of 6-4.

The Pirates make a road trip this weekend, taking on the Palm Springs Power at 7:00pm on both Friday and Saturday night.

Defensive mistakes and late bats cause the Inland Valley Pirates drop Thursday’s game at Amerige Park to the Solana Beach Redbirds in a 9-3 loss.

The Redbirds got their momentum going early by getting on the board first with a triple and a single in the first inning. The redbirds would go on to keep the lead throughout the game, eventually scoring 8 more runs.

However, the Pirates did not go down without a fight. The Pirates got on the board in the 5th inning with a leadoff double from Nathan Luna (6) and an RBI single from Josh Jubile (17) to bring Luna home. With a combined of 11 strikeouts, Thursday’s pitching staff also did not go without putting up a fight on their home field. Unfortunately, that was not enough to slow down the Redbirds and stop them from taking advantage of the Pirates’ defensive mistakes.

The Pirates are now 3-4 in SBL League games and 3-5 in overall season. The Pirates will have an off day on Friday before taking on the Signal Hill Oilers in a double header at Long Beach City College on Saturday at 1 pm and 4:30 pm.

In a non-conference game Thursday afternoon, the Inland Valley Buccaneers beat the Gamer 8-2 at Citrus College. With the win, the Buccaneers improved to 7-6 overall on the season.

The Buccaneers got strong pitching this afternoon, holding the Gamers to only 6 hits. Starter Tyler Agajanian went 5 strong innings, allowing 4 hits and and striking out 2 to get his first win on the season. Relievers Jake Wilkerson and Aaron Bernal pitched the last 4 innings and only allowing 1 run on 2 hits.

The offense was also clicking for the Buccaneer with 11 hits and three stolen bases. Leadoff hitter Dylan Hirsh lead the way going 2-4 with 2 RBIs in the 5th inning. Third baseman Max Miller was on base 3 out of his 4 at bats with 2 runs scored.

The Buccaneers go on the road for a double header against the San Diego Force on Saturday at Madison HS before returning home on Monday against the Inland Valley Pirates at 4:30 PM.

The Ventura Country Pirates came to Amerige Park to play Tuesday night, crushing the Inland Valley Pirates in a 12-0 shutout victory.

This is Inland Valley’s second consecutive shutout defeat at home this week, after dropping a 5-0 loss to Riverside on Sunday.

The home team struggled to find any kind of rhythm in Tuesday’s game. Inland Valley had just four hits for the night and were unable to score against the strong pitching performances from Ventura County.

Darrian Lopez got the start on the mound for Inland Valley. He pitched the first four innings and only gave up two runs. Ventura County was able to score an additional ten runs in the last five innings of the game, however, as Inland Valley cycled through three more players from it’s bullpen.

This evens out Inland Valley’s overall record at 6-6, but doesn’t affect league record as Ventura County is an out-of-conference opponent.

Inland Valley will get to enjoy a day off tomorrow and will resume league play on Thursday evening at 7:00pm when they face the San Diego Force at Amerige Park.

Big day for the Inland Valley Buccaneers! After winning a battle in game one, Bucs fired their cannons for an early lead and a win in game two against the San Diego Force.

Bucs once again get on the board first with 6 runs in the second inning. After loading the bases with two hit-by-pitch runners and a walk, Christos Stefanos (14) hits a grand slam off of the Force starting pitcher Brent McDonald. Showing no mercy, the Bucs will go on to bat through the other and score two more runs in the second.

Today’s standout performance comes from Christos Stefanos, who went 2 for 3 with back to back homeruns, which allowed the Bucs to get to a comfortable lead throughout the game. With the exception of one inning, the Bucs pitching staff remained locked and loaded. With a total of 16 team strikeouts, starter and winning pitcher Brennan Piceno (7) handed out 7 strikeouts in four innings, relief pitcher Gerardo Ramirez (6) held the Force to 3 runs and handing out 7 strikeouts, and closer Isaac Lopez closing out the game with 2 strikeouts.

After two high energy games from both teams and their dugouts, the Bucs sweep the Force in their two-game series.  The Bucs are now sitting at a 4-5 record in conference play. After some well deserved days off, they are back in action on Thursday, June 21 at Citrus College against the Gamers at 4:30 pm.

After a lengthy back and forth battle, the Inland Valley Buccaneers hand the San Diego Force their second loss in league play.

The Bucs got on the board first with a lead off single from Monte Montenegro (17) to start the second inning. Following Montenegro’s lead, the next three batters, Scott (26), Stefanos (14), Santa Anna (5); would go on to hit singles. Along with fielder choice plays, the Bucs took the lead in the second with a 2-0 lead. The Force would catch up and take the lead in the second with a 3-2 lead, but not for long. The Bucs tie it up in the fourth at 4-4 by capitalizing on defensive mistakes. The Bucs would then go on to increase and hold the lead, winning the game 7-5.

Today’s standout performance came from the pitching of both teams. With a combined total of 22 strikeouts, 14 were delivered by the Bucs pitching. Starting pitcher, Peter Eitapence (29) set the tone with 5 strikeouts through his 5 innings pitched. Relief pitchers Wyatt Regis (34) and Hayden Petrovick (15) would follow suit with 4 strikeouts each. 

Bucs take game one of the double header series against the Force and are sitting at a 3-5 record in conference play.

The Pirates defeated the Riverside Bulldogs twice already this weekend, but failed to come up with the complete sweep of their league opponents, suffering a 5-0 defeat in Sunday night’s game.

Inland Valley could not quite get things going on the mound, as the Pirates saw five different pitchers get a chance to play. The only hits of the night came from Ryan Williams, with two singles in his two times at bat, and Nick Peifer, who hit a double in the seventh inning. Neither was enough to get any runs on the board.

This makes Inland Valley’s overall record 6-5 and leaves their conference play at 3-4.

The team will have Monday off to reset before jumping back into it’s non-conference schedule on Tuesday night when they face the VC Pirates at Amerige Park at 7:00pm.

For the second consecutive night the Inland Valley Pirates beat the Riverside Bulldogs at Amerige Park. The Pirates jumped out to an early lead and never looked back with a final score of 7-4. With the victory, the Pirates are in third place in the SCCBL with a 4-2 record.

The Pirates would get 3 runs in the 1st to get the early. Aaron Halpert would get a double and then be driven in by Bryce Willits for the first run. Two batters later, Trevor Jackson would take Bulldogs pitcher Jake Barbata deep for a 2-run homerun. The homerun would be his first of the year. The Bulldogs would answer back in the 2nd with two runs of their own off Pirates starter Khoto Hasegawa. With the score 3-2 Pirates in the second, the Pirates would add another run with a Joey Riherd single bringing home Chase Wehesner from second to put them up 4-2.

Both teams would score in the 4th and the Bulldogs would add another in the 5th to make the score 5-4 heading into the bottom of the 6th. The Pirates would get the first two runners on with a single and a walk before Joey Riherd would get another RBI to bring home Jake Jachemann. The next batter would hit into a double play but also bring in a run from third. With the 2 runs this inning, the Pirates would be up 7-4 and hold the lead for the last three innings,

The Pirates and Bulldogs play one more game Sunday night at Amerige Park at 7 PM.

The Pirates get their third win on the season with a 2-1 win over the Sparrows on Saturday.

Pirates got on the board first with a lead odd double by Tyler Van Marter (34) and then knocked in with a RBI Single from Cody Marshall (11) in the first inning. Pirates would be kept at a one run lead until the 5th when Ryan Whithorn (55) reaches first on an error on Sparrow’s shortstop. Whithorn will go on to score thanks to a stolen base, walk for Jaden Burns (7) and fielder’s choice play.

The Pirates defense did not go unnoticed either. Pirates’ starting pitcher, Henry Martinez (24) kept the Sparrows scoreless for 6 innings straight. The Sparrow’s one run came in the top of the 8th with some unfortunate walks from reliever Angel Ruiz Jr. (25). Thankfully closer Benjamin Aguilera (19) was able to hold the Sparrows at one and end the inning. Aguilera went on to pitch a 1-2-3 inning to end the game.

The Pirates are now 3-4 overall in their season and are back in action on Tuesday, June 19 against the Long Beach Legends at Long Beach City College at 4:30 pm.
