Pirates Lose Heartbreaker

The Inland Valley Pirates (17-15-2, 7-12-1) dropped a heartbreaking 7-6 game to the Palm Springs Power (31-11, 14-6) Wednesday night at Palm Springs Stadium as the Power walked off on a wild pitch.

The Pirates had a 6-1 lead in the seventh, but gave up five in the seventh and the winning run in the ninth.

The result means the two teams will see each other again in just five days in the first round of the SCCBL playoffs.

The Pirates took a 2-0 lead in the fifth before the Power answered with one in the bottom of the frame.

Inland Valley plated four in the seventh, but Palm Springs responded with five in the bottom of the inning to knot it up at 6.

Ryan Alsworth tossed six standout innings, while striking out three and only allowing one run.

Bucs Split with Riptide

The Inland Valley Bucs (13-15-2, 8-11) split the season series with the OC Riptide (15-19-1, 12-8) on Wednesday night at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Bucs won 10-3 in the final game of the set and will renew the rivalry next Monday in the first round of the SCCBL playoffs.

For the first seven innings, it was a back-and-forth affair until the Bucs used a six-run eighth inning to put the game out of reach.

Randall Ortiz was sensational tossing 6.2 innings and striking out six, while not allowing an earned run.

The Riptide got out to a 1-0 lead in the first.

The Bucs answered with one in the third on a Kevin Riley RBI double, but he was just getting started.

Inland Valley grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth as Brendan Campbell crossed home plate.

The Riptide fought back with two in the seventh to regain the lead at 3-2.

The Bucs responded with two of their own in the bottom of the frame to rip the lead away for good.

Riley had his second RBI double of the day to tie it at 3-3 and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

In the ninth, things got out of hand for the Riptide as the Bucs came through with six runs.

JP Hopkins had a tw0-run knock.

Riley cranked his third double down the left field line, this time scoring two for a total of four RBI and scored his second run of the game as well.

Bryce Brooks rounded out the scoring with an RBI ground out.

Jacob Taylor hurled 2.1 innings and recorded his first victory of the season.

The Bucs travel south to Madison High School to face the San Diego Force in their regular season finale at 5 p.m. on Friday.

Pirates and Force Tie

The Inland Valley Pirates and the San Diego Force have officially tied 5-5 in a game played at Madison High School earlier in the season.

The final score was 5-5.

It was a back-and-forth game that saw lead changes and ultimately was called due to darkness.

Erik Trask was exceptional tossing 7.2 innings, while striking out five. He allowed three earned runs, but unfortunately for the Pirates, two unearned runs are what the Force used to tie and take a late 5-4 lead.

The Pirates responded by tying it right back up.

Jeff Nellis had a big day at the dish going 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Michael Deceglie scored twice.

Bucs Sucomb to Riptide

The Inland Valley Bucs (12-15-2, 7-11) lost 12-5 to the OC Riptide on Tuesday afternoon at Vanguard University.

The Riptide built the lead to 12-0 after scoring twice in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Bucs fought back with four in the eighth and one in the ninth to make it a more respectable final score.

Joseph Morreale and Blake Vandegrift had RBI knocks and Bryce Brooks ripped a two-run single in the eighth.

Matt Majher had the RBI single in the ninth.
