Pirates Take the Win After a Pitching Duel with the Jays

After 9-inning pitching battle with the California Jays, the Inland Valley Pirates take it home with a  3-1 win.

After some scheduling confusion, the Pirates played the Jays in a matchup where the umpire for the day was none other than Pirates’ Head Coach, Brett Lacheman. Despite the game weather staying in the 90s, Pirates’ pitching staff stayed calm, cool and collected putting away a combined 14 strikeouts in today’s win. 6 of those strikeouts were consecutive and came from the two innings pitched by Kevin Santana (35).

Today’s standout player of the game was Colton Combs (24) who went 3 for 3 with a single in the first, double in the fourth and a double in the sixth. A passed ball and a sacrifice hit from Ryan Crowe (12) allowed Combs to come home and score the first the Pirates’ 3 runs today.

With the race for playoffs on, the Pirates are sitting pretty with an overall record of 13-9 and a SCCBL conference record of 10-6; just behind first place team the Palm Springs Power.  After some well deserved days off the Inland Valley Pirates will face the Riverside Bulldogs in a conference battle on July 11 at Santiago High School in Corona at 7:00 pm.
