Pirates lose game 2 to Power to split double header

In game 2 of Thursday’s double header, the Palm Springs Power beat the Inland Valley Pirates 4-6 to earn a split. With the loss, the Pirates fall to 2-2 in the SCCBL and 4-5 overall.

The Pirates would get on the board first after Joey Riherd would score after getting a leadoff double. The lead wouldn’t last long for the Pirates as the Power would tack on runs in the third and fourth to take a 2-1 lead. The Pirates would answer back with two runs in the fifth to take the lead again at 2-3 with Ryan Pho and Aaron Halpert both scoring unearned runs off Power pitcher Jonathan Buckley.

With the Power scoring more runs in the sixth and seventh and the Pirates scoring 1 in the eighth, the score was 4-4 heading into the ninth. With Tyler Kanne on the mound for the Pirates, the Power would score 2 runs after Kanne would load the bases on two hit by pitches and a single. With the bases loaded, Kanne would retire the next batter but then walk in the run from third. The next batter would strike out before a wild pitch would make the score 6-4. The Pirates would then go down in order in the ninth for the loss.

The Pirates return to action at home against the Riverside Bulldogs at 7 PM.
