The Pirates won a nail biter against the South Bay Sparrows 4-3 on Saturday night at Scolinos Field.
Inland Valley scored the first two runs of the game. In the second, Zack Cooper delivered a sacrifice fly. Two innings later, Hunter Cooper came through with an RBI double.
South Bay would eventually tie it up at 2-2.
In the bottom of the eighth the Pirates regained the lead. Alberto Vargas scored on a wild pitch by South Bay’s Brian Sholty. Inland Valley added an insurance run on first baseman Colton Hector’s fielding error that allowed Jake Taylor to score from second base.
The Sparrows wouldn’t go quietly in the ninth. After cutting it to a one run game. South Bay had runners on first and second with one out. But Christian Lopez got the final two hitters to preserve the win.
