The Inland Valley Pirates beat the Orange County Orioles and the heat 2-1 Friday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.
On a day with the temperatures soaring above 100 degrees the Pirates (11-11-1) Orioles (2-15) locked up in a pitchers duel.
Inland Valley finally broke open a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh with two runs. Hunter Cooper led off with a walk then Aaron Pack followed with a base hit to right field. As Cooper was racing to third Orioles right fielder Ryan Carpenter committed a throwing error allowing Cooper to score. Isiah Carreon added a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
Andre Henson got the win in relief. Sir Gomez went the final two innings to earn the save.
