Pirates split doubleheader with San Diego Invaders

The Inland Valley Pirates split a non-league doubleheader with the San Diego Invaders Wednesday night.

The Invaders took game one 7-2 and Inland Valley won the nightcap 9-3 at Cal Poly Pomona.

In game one, San Diego scored six runs in the third inning off Pirates reliever Jake Geck.

Inland Valley’s Kristian Scott was 2-3 with 2RBI in a losing effort.

In game two, the Pirates trailed by a run heading into the bottom of the third. This time around it was Inland Valley who put together a big inning. The Pirates scored five times in the third on just two hits.

The offense was aided by bases loaded walk from Invaders reliever Kyle Gracey. San Diego also committed a pair of errors which resulted in two Pirate runs.

Kohto Hasegawa made his season debut on the mound in relief for Inland Valley. The right hander threw two innings, gave up one hit, struck out six, and earned the win.

The Pirates return to the field Friday when they host the Orange County Orioles.
