The Inland Valley Pirates two-game winning streak came to an end as they were beaten 14-5 by the Orange County Surf.
Pirates starter Michael Gomez entered the game having thrown eleven straight scoreless innings. That streak came an abrupt end. Luke Hussung led off game with his first of two home runs. The Surf added two more runs and led 3-0 after half an inning.
Orange County’s offensive barrage continued in the second inning as they roughed up Gomez for seven more runs. The big blow was a three-run double by shortstop Zach Sehgal.
Gomez’s night was done after two innings. The Cal Poly Pomona right hander allowed 10 runs in just two innings.
The Pirates are off Monday, but return to action on Tuesday when they host the San Diego Invaders in a doubleheader.
