The Pirates (7-2, 0-1) fell 8-2 to the Palm Springs Power (9-0, 1-0) at Palm Springs Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Pirates grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI single by Andrew Alvarez scoring Greg Espinosa, but the Power answered with two in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead.
Palm Springs added four in the fourth and two more in the sixth to increase their lead to 8-1.
Kyle Jackson finished the scoring off with an RBI that plated Bryce Cherry in the ninth.
The Pirates face the Power for game 2 at 7 p.m on Wednesday at Palm Springs Stadium.
