Pirates Split Doubleheader with the Force

The Force is with the Pirates (Game 1 Recap)

The Pirates (6-0) tossed a one-hitter against the San Diego Force 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.

Michael Koval and Cody Erautt were sensational. Koval struckout seven in four innings, while allowing the one hit. Erautt earned the victory and hurled five inning, while sitting down five Force hitters.

The Pirates jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third when Anthony Virgen scored on a wild pitch.

They increased their lead in the sixth to 2-0 as Jacob Bernardy, who reached on a base hit scored.

Inland Valley tacked on one more insurance run in the seventh when Bernardy had an RBI knock scoring Bryce Cherry.

Pirates Fall for First Time (Game 2 Recap)

After digging themselves into a 4-0 hole, the Pirates (6-1) fought valiantly to get within one run before falling 5-3 to the San Diego Force Saturday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Pirates uncharacteristically were caught out on the base paths three times, two of them occurring in between third and home.

Inland Valley scored one in the second on an RBI rip by Anthony Virgen, which scored Greg Espinosa to cut the deficit to 4-1.

The Pirates plated two more in the seventh to make it 4-3. Michael Johnson belted a two-run single scoring Andrew Alvarez and Bryce Cherry, but it just wasn’t meant to be as the Force added another run in the eighth.

Jack Johnson pitched 4.2 innings allowing no runs and striking out two. Kevin Glomb worked two scoreless innings as well.
