The Inland Valley Pirates (3-0) jumped out to an early start and never looked back in a 10-0 victory against the East L.A. Dodgers Monday night at Banning High School.
Although the offense exploded for 10 runs, the story was the 17 strikeouts the four Pirate pitchers earned en route to a collective shutout. Jack Johnson notched the win and recorded seven strikeouts in three innings. Kevin Glomb started the game and tossed two innings, while striking out three. Ryan Romero added two strikeouts in two innings and Brett Early closed out the game with five Dodger whiffs in two innings.
The Pirates took a 2-0 lead in the first. Jonny Reynoso scored on an AJ David RBI. Blake James also scored.
Inland Valley doubled up the score in the third as James ripped a two-run single scoring Jimmy Mancilla and Greg Espinosa.
In the eighth, the Pirates came through with their third two-run frame. David and Christian Kelley each belted doubles.
The Pirates finished strong with a four-run ninth inning. Nolan Henley, Andrew Alvarez, Fernando Escobar and Espinosa scored.
The Pirates face the California Titans next on Tuesday at 5 pm at Cal Poly Pomona.
