Pirates Handle the Rebels

The Inland Valley Pirates (6-8) defeated the Riverside Rebels (7-11) by a score of 6-1 in a battle of two starting pitchers.

For the Pirates, Kevin Glomb pitched a gem, going seven innings without allowing an earned run on four hits, while striking out seven Rebels.

For the Rebels, it was Miguel Navarro pitching a complete game allowing just four earned runs.

Offensively for the Pirates, Kyle Jackson got it going in the second with a rocket RBI double off the middle of the wall in left field to score Michael Johnson from second base.

The Pirates added two more in the third on an Anthony Virgen RBI single just out of the reach of a diving Zach Hubert at third base.

In the seventh inning the Rebels took advantage of a couple of their opportunities. Martinez, who reached on a single, scored and the tying run advanced to second base. Glomb responded getting Josh Middleton to fly out to left.

Marcos Martinez came out of the bullpen, slamming the door going two scoreless innings while the Pirates offensively capitalized on a tired Navarro as he struggled with his command walking Bryce Brooks with the bases loaded to push the score to 6-1.

These two teams will play again at Scolinos Field on the Cal Poly Pamona campus again tomorrow night at 5 p.m. Listen live at sccbaseball.com
