Pirates Force Rebels to Walk the Plank

The Inland Valley Pirates (7-8, 5-8) defeated the Riverside Rebels (7-12, 2-8) 3-0 Tuesday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Pirates clung to a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Greg Espinosa belted an RBI single scoring Aaron Reynoso.

Inland Valley added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth as Blake James and Anthony Virgen each scored, while Jonny Reynoso contributed an RBI.

In the top of the seventh, it looked as though the Rebels would get back into the game. They loaded the bases with no outs, but Brett Early came in relief and struck out the side. He recorded the three-inning save with five strikeouts. Marcos Martinez picked up the win, entering in the fourth and tossing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

The Rebels had many opportunities, but could never cash in, leaving 11 men on base.

Anthony Carrizosa suffered the tough loss, only giving up one run in five innings.

The Rebels host the High Desert Heat on Monday, while the Pirates face the Long Beach Legends in a doubleheader next Tuesday.
