Fullerton, Calif.- The Pirates came up with a clutch bottom of the ninth inning to score the go-ahead run to a 4-3 victory over the South Bay Saints Monday afternoon at Amerige Park. With the victory, the Pirates ended a five-game losing streak.
The Pirates platoon of a pitching staff did a great job at controlling the Saint’s offense. Pat Showalter got into a little bit of trouble in the top of the first inning, but ultimately walked off the mound in the top of the 3rd with no hits allowed and one earned run. Khoto Hasegawa, Brian Marquez, and Freddie Casteneda held the Saints to zero runs in a five-inning span. The Saints would not score until the 8th inning (2 runs).
It took awhile for the Pirates bats to get going. The Pirates did not score until the 7th inning. Dante Palacio doubled and was brought home by a Demetri Colacchio single. The real party started at the bottom of the 9th. Down two runs, Brendan Guy opened the inning with a clutch double down the left field line and would later score. The first five batters all reached base. Gerber would score the walk-off run on a passed ball with the bases loaded.
The Pirates will look to carry the momentum going forward to Friday. At 3 pm the Pirates will Travel to Santiago Canyon High School to face the So Cal Stros. Pirates Win 4-3
