Bucs fall 1-2 in 14 innings to lose championship game

In game 3 of the SCCBL championship series, the Inland Valley Buccaneers and San Diego Force went 14 innings with the Force prevailing 1-2. With the win, the San Diego Force won the league championship for the third time in the past four years. The Bucs finish their season just short of the championship and an overall record of 18-14.

The championship game was all about pitching with both teams only combining for 14 hits overall. For the Bucs, starter Brennan Piceno went 7 strong innings while only giving up 1 run and four hits. Force starter, Ryan Losman,  was even better by going 8 and 1/3 while only giving up 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 12. Both pitchers would leave the game with the score 1-1 with their respective bullpens keeping the game close for the remainder of the game. The next 2 pitchers for the Bucs, Aaron Bernal and Hayden Petrovick, would keep the game tied with four innings of scoreless work. Matthew Goytia would replace Petrovick in the 12th and shut down the Force for the next 2 innings. In the 14th, Goytia would allow a leadoff double to Drake Pierson to put the go ahead run at second. After hitting the next batter to put runners at 1st and 2nd, Goytia would get a groundout for the first out while the runners on 1st and 2nd advanced. After intentional walking the next batter, Goytia got a big strikeout for out number 2. With two outs and the bases loaded, Goytia would hit the next batter, Joshua Sidley, to bring home the runner from third and give the Force the 1-2 win.
