The Inland Valley Pirates complete a two-game sweep against the SoCal Bombers Friday night, downing their league opponent in a 6-0 shutout.
Inland Valley got on the board first in the third inning when Jake Anderson tacked on another RBI to his season, hitting a single that allowed Trevor Jackson to score. Neither team would score again until the it seventh where the Pirates really got hot. With two outs and the score still at 1-0, Inland Valley gathered all their momentum and managed to score an additional five times to secure the lead.
While the offense was solid, it was the pitching performances that really stole the show. Andre Henson set the tone, pitching the first four complete innings without giving up any hits and racking up seven strikeouts. Jake Lacheman then took things over, pitching the next three innings and adding three strikeouts of his own. Finally, Trip Aversa took full advantage of his two innings on the mound. He struck out five of the six batters he faced for two impressive 1-2-3 innings to finish the game and hold off the Bombers.
The Pirate’s now continue to hold their second place ranking in the SCCBL with a league record of 10-6. They will play again tomorrow night at Amerige in a non-league game against the CA Jays at 7:00pm.
