POMONA, CA – Kyle Jackson led the way with three hits and two runs for the Inland Valley Pirates (3-3, 2-3) en route to a 3-1 victory against the East L.A. Dodgers Saturday afternoon at Cal Poly Pomona.
The Dodgers sprung out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but the Pirates answered.
In the bottom of the sixth, Greg Espinosa started things off with a perfectly executed bunt hit down the third base line. The red-hot Jackson followed with a double to deep left field setting the stage for Jonny Reynoso, who ripped a two-run double to center field scoring both Espinosa and Jackson to make it a 2-1 Pirate lead.
Inland Valley tacked on one more run in the eighth when Jackson singled and scored.
The Pirate pitching staff was phenomenal recording 12 strikeouts. Of the eight pitchers to take the mound, Marcos Martinez tossed two innings, struck out four and picked up the win. Brett Early shut the door for the save.
This was the first of eight games in eight days for the Pirates, who take on the Dodgers again on Monday before playing the Riverside Rebels in two league games on Wednesday and Thursday at Soboba Indian Reservation.
