The Inland Valley Pirates (3-2-1, 1-2) lost a 12 inning heart-breaker 2-1 to the OC Riptide (3-6-1, 1-0) Friday night at Vanguard University.
The Riptide took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
The Pirates answered with one in the seventh on a Nick Marshall RBI scoring Kyle Jackson.
The Riptide threatened from the fifth through 12th innings, getting their lead-off hitter on board in each frame, but time and time again, Eric Trask and Andrew Eppenbach turned away the home team – until the 12th inning when Orange County’s Zach McLeod ripped his fourth hit of the day on a walk-off blast to deep left center field.
Trask tossed six innings while only allowing one earned run. Eppenbach was the tough luck loser firing 5.2 innings.
The Pirates and Riptide do battle again Saturday night at 5 p.m. at Citrus College.
